About Me
Your “About Me” Page is a very important part of your blog.

All of the pages on your blog are very important, but for some reason the “about me” page is mistakenly overlooked and almost ignored.

So let’s talk about what needs to happen with your ‘about me‘ page.

The first page most people will see is your home page. But realize that if your home page catches the interest of your visitors, they’ll want to dig a little further. One of the next things they’ll want to do is find out a little more about who your are, what you do, and how you can possibly help them. Having a solid ‘about me’ page is especially important if you expect people to spend money with you.

One thing you need to understand is that your ‘about me’ page needs to attract your visitors to YOU. This page is so important, that if it’s not done correctly, even though the rest of your blog is good, your visitors might possibly choose not to stay on your blog.

These tips will help your ‘About Me’ page pop in a way that will keep your visitors engaged.

1.  Stay focused

Even though the main reason for people visiting your ‘about me’ page is to get to know you better, it’s not the place for them to get your whole life’s history. So while you want to give them what they want, you don’t have to write an autobiography.

So keep your ‘about me’ page short but mainly, stay focused on the purpose of the page and be engaging when you share your qualifications, your expertise, even your vulnerabilities.

2. Be Honest

I’ve seen a few bloggers embellish a little too much on what their capabilities are. Don’t lie about what you’ve achieved just to make yourself look better. That’s a HUGE mistake. It won’t take long for your readers to discover the truth. Stretching the truth can make matters worse for you once you’re found out. And a bad reputation isn’t that easy to fix.

I’m sure you’ve heard the “fake it till you make it” way of doing things. Don’t fall for it. It will only come back to bite you. So, when you’re writing your ‘about me’ page, pretend you’ve never heard the ‘fake-it’ stuff.

3. Be as Real and Human as Possible

When it comes to doing business, people want to know who they’re doing business with. Find a good picture of yourself, or create a short video and add it to your ‘about me’ page. This helps people to see the ‘real’ person that you are. Now you won’t come across as a name or blog without a face hiding behind your computer. You’ve become a person that makes it easier for people to relate.

Adding your contact information is another good tip for your ‘about me’ page. You don’t have to use your personal information. Just give your blog visitors a place to reach out through email, messaging, or social media.

4. How Can Your ‘About Me’ Help Your Readers?

One thing that people want to know about you is if you can help solve their problems. Meaning… can you give them the help they need? Your ‘about me’ page is the place to let your visitors know what you can do to help them. So when you’re writing your page, don’t spend time talking about how rich you are or how much money you’ve made. Write with your readers in mind.

5. Include an All-Important Call to Action

This is one I use to always forget. Always give your readers a call to action whenever you write an ‘about me’ page. A good call to action could be asking them to join your newsletter or sign up for your FREE compelling offer. I don’t recommend asking them to buy something right of the bat, but many bloggers have successfully used this call to action on their ‘about me’ pages.

Whatever you choose to connect with your readers, is is fine, just do something so that you’re not missing an opportunity to reach out, connect, and give to your new readers.

By the time your visitors have read your ‘about me’ page, they should have the answers to the typical questions that most visitors have. They should also be comfortable digging deeper into your blog.

So remember… your ‘about me’ page is very important.

Don’t ignore it or take it lightly. If someone takes the time to go past your home or post pages to find out more about you, don’t take it lightly. Give them what they want!

About You

Hopefully, you already understand the power of using social media with your online efforts, and the importance of the page that’s all about you.

Just about every social site has a section that allows you to give people a ‘sneak preview’ as to who you are and what you’re all about. It’s called the About Me section… or page and it’s all about you. It’s about what you do, what you know, what you love… in just a few words. Some bloggers even have a separate blog, with a different domain, that’s all about who they are and what they can offer to those who follow them.

And unfortunately, a lot of bloggers pay very little attention to this about you section because it’s not a part of their actual blog. Big mistake! Everything on the internet that’s attached to who you are is important. So don’t neglect it. Your about you page deserves your attention.

Your about you page is extremely important because it’s where you sell yourself to your newest prospects and potential business associates in the shortest amount of time. And this is important regardless of what type of marketing you’re doing online.

When you take the time to tell people about you, it gives you the chance to establish yourself as an authority in whatever it is that you do. It also helps to gives you the credibility that’s often needed before you can ever make a sale… depending on your product.

So… how do you create an amazing page that’s all about you?

Don’t be afraid to share your story…

In one of my internet trainings, the coach said to me… “give them as much as you can in a 6 floor elevator ride.” That’s only enough time to share five or six sentences. So what should your elevator story be? Here are some helpful hints.

- What did you do to get where you are?

- What made you decide to start your own business?

- What can you offer to people that will help them?

- What sets you apart from all the rest?

Take some time to think about these things and don’t waste words. Remember… you only have enough time (or space) for a paragraph or two.

You want your about you page to be real, so make it personal and write from the heart… as though you’re actually speaking with someone sitting right in front of you. Make it you… the way you speak… the words you use.

Now, there is a little controversy on this next point.

I’ve heard some say that when you write your about you page, you should write from the third person. I’ve heard others say you should write from the first. In my own opinion, since I wouldn’t be speaking to someone about myself in the third person, why would I write it that way. The concern with those who prefer the third person is that it sounds better if someone else is bragging on you than you bragging on yourself. Huh? Who said an about you page was supposed to be braggadocios? Just share your story!

Begin your about you story with the things that you know would be most interesting to your readers.

Give them the WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) side of you. For instance, if you have a pet store, tell them that you know how to house-train a dog. Even let them know that you’ve helped other people house train their dogs too. Share anything that would be of benefit to them.

The main thing you want to do is “connect” and leave them knowing that there’s something they can do (a call to action) to improve their situation or get the answer to a question they may have.

There are many ways to include something that tells them what to do. You could share you blog link or a contact form.

Give your reader a chance to see that you’re interested in what they have to say, or… that you can provide them with something they might need or want.

Keep in mind that your about you page can always change. I say, once you’ve written it, leave it for at least a day, then come back and take a look. You may think of different ways to say the same thing that might sound better. If you do, make the changes then publish. This way, you’ll know that you’re happy about your results. Again… your about you page is extremely important. Don’t play it down.

I’d love to see some of your about you pages, so please feel free to leave a comment with a link to one of your social networking sites. The more information you share with others, the more will come back to you. Give us a chance to get acquainted, and find out more about you!
