Should You Blog
Have you recently caught the ‘blog bug’?

Starting a blog can be loads of fun and if you’re like many new bloggers, you have a challenging road ahead… but it doesn’t have to be.

Before you ever get started, you want to ask yourself if starting a blog is something that you really want to do. There are a lot of really good reasons that people start blogs.

Some people like to share the latest news of their lives with family and friends. Others like to share helpful information about whatever their favorite subject might be. Some people blog for business and others blog for money.

So if you’re considering starting a new blog, ask yourself a simple question…

Why do I want to start a blog?

Once you know the reason for starting your blog, you’ll definitely want to get started right the first time.

Just so you know, learning how to blog is not difficult. You can actually go from being completely green and knowing absolutely nothing about blogging to having your first blog up and running in about an hour or so.

So to help you decide, here are a few quick tips… just some things to consider when you’re thinking about starting a blog.

Blog For Free?

1. When you’re just starting out, you can actually set up a free blog on places like Blogger or WordPress.com, but free blogs are not for professional bloggers and I don’t recommend them for anyone. You’ll end up wasting a lot of time because if you’re really serious about your blog… (especially if its to make money)… you’ll find that you will eventually want to switch to a self-hosted blog. More on this in future posts.

For a little clarity, ‘free’ blogs simply means that these blogs are hosted by someone else who has control. If you choose to get your own hosting, you can generally find it for under $10 per month at places like Host Gator. This is the option that I recommend. For such a small amount of money, you gain so much. You’ll learn more about this if you’ve gone through my “How To Blog For Success” series or the “Getting Started” video training.

Training will help you get started right, but before you do, here are a couple of very important things for you to consider before ever starting your blog.

1.  Developing Your Blog’s Main Topic

Think about the “who” of your blog. Who are the people who will benefit from the information you’ll be sharing? This will help you to determine the main topic of your blog.

2. Discovering if You Have Passion for Your Topic of Choice

Even though many will disagree… I recommend that you create your blog around a topic that you absolutely love to talk about. That stops you from getting bored with your blog and keeps it exciting for others to read. You always want to keep your blog visitors coming back for more!

To me, the best scenario is when you blog about something you love that could also bring in revenue. Don’t forget to consider these points very closely as you begin your own blog journey. These points alone can make or break the success of your blog.

3. Who Will Visit Your Blog?

Now that you have a blog, your goal is to drive as much traffic as you possibly can. And I have to stress this point again… The best way to keep them coming back is by making sure that you write about whatever you’ve chosen for your main topic.

In other words… If your blog is about what to do to stay healthy you’ll write about eating the right foods and getting plenty of exercise… not about how to house train your dog. After all, your main topic is the reason people visit your blog, so be sure to give them what they want.

This post has given you just a few points to consider when you think about starting your own blog. So, consider them closely and whatever you do… have fun with your blog!
