Lets say you’ve just written the very best blog post in your entire blogging career.
You’re looking for some type of result, right? Well… if you fail to recommend that your readers do something after reading your blog post, you’ll most likely not get the results you want.
A “call to action” is a simple term that means to ask or tell whoever is reading your content to take some sort of action when they’re done reading. The purpose for this is to help your readers stick around on your blog longer. Remember… you want those loyal readers that are comfortable with you.
The more of your content they read and the longer they stay on your blog, the better chance you have of making real connections.
There are many things you can ask a reader to do right from your blog post. Here are some ideas you can draw from.
1. Ask your reader subscribe to your newsletter
2. Recommend that they buy an e-book… yours or an affiliate
3. Ask them to “retweet’ and “like” your blog post so it shows up in their Facebook or Twitter feed.
4. Have them download a report that’s related to the blog post you’ve written.
5. Recommend a new idea or tip that your readers can use to improve whatever you’re writing about that relates to them.
Actually… anything that will benefit your readers AND you would be good to include within your blog post.
Don’t beat around the bush and don’t be afraid to ask…
The “call to action” on your blog post should be loud and clear. You can link to a post, but don’t assume that linked text is all you need. It’s okay to include links, but when you do, you’ve still got to tell your readers the what and why. Here’s an example:
The what: Click this link….
The why: to get more tips on how to blog better.
You’re not pushing anything down your readers throats. You’re keeping it simple and clean, but it’s very obvious what you want your readers to do.
Where are the best places in include your blogs call to action?
1. At the end of your blog post is one of the most natural places. You create an instant, easy flow from your blog post to your call to action. When you place your call to action at the end of your post, you help to direct your reader on what they should do next. Don’t assume too much. Leave some ‘easy-to-follow’ instructions, so that your reader doesn’t leave your site too soon.
So what do you say to your readers to get them to take action?

Drop little hints all throughout your blog post.
Your call to action doesn’t have to appear just at the end of all of your blog posts. When you introduce your call to action earlier on, you’re preparing your readers to take action once they’ve gotten to the end of the matter.
Let’s say you’ve written a blog post and you’ve listed out some steps or ideas for your readers. Ask them to add to their own thoughts and ideas.
This is also a great way to implement selling an affiliate product. Find really good products that are related to your topic and that can offer your readers some real value. You’ll both win.
Always keep whatever products you choose about them. Yes, you’ll benefit, but your readers have to be able to see what’s in it for them before they buy.
As you can see, including a “call out” to your readers is a lot easier than most bloggers realize.
Now that you’re pretty clear on what a “call to action” is, go back to some of your older blog posts and see how you can implement this tip. And keep in mind, this should now be an automatic practice as you write new blog posts. You don’t have to add a call to action every single time, but certainly more often than not.
