So, we’ve talked about the importance of good content, but what happens when you’re trying to brainstorm blog content for new posts?
For starters, if you want to maintain your readership, you have to continue to update your blog regularly. That means you must constantly brainstorm blog content. It never stops. So how do you do it…
One thing I always recommend for your main “hub” blog is to brainstorm blog content within a topic that you have a lot of passion for. Here’s why.
I’ll use my own example. Like many bloggers, I once worked a regular 8 to 5 where I had no choice and no say in how things were run. It was for the government, so talk about no creativity, that was it. I didn’t work there because I was passionate or remotely interested in court matters. It simply paid the bills.
So, now that I’ve chosen to make blogging my career, forcing myself to yet again engage all of my time with something that I have no interest in would make no sense. That would be just as mundane and torturous as my corporate job was! So, I found something I enjoyed, and that was helping other people learn to do what I fell in love with.
And as passionate as I am about my topic, I still find myself on occasion, having to brainstorm blog content.
Another reason I suggest you write about your passions when you brainstorm blog content is because when you do, your emotion comes through your writing. You could have knowledge about something, or you could do your research to get enough information to write a good article, but unless it means something to you, your readers can tell.
To keep your blog current, develop the habit of writing something new and fresh to you blog every single day. I know this may seem like a lot, but when you’re just starting out, it’s the best way to get traffic visiting your blog regularly. And in order to write every day, I repeat — you must constantly brainstorm blog content.
One way to brainstorm blog content is to make a comment about something you’ve read that day…
Even if you read something from a newspaper, as long as it’s relevant to something that can somehow relate to your topic, it can work. This means that every post doesn’t have to be a full 600 word article. Just be sure to write something!
When your blog is new, you have to look at your blog as a huge train, and you’re the conductor. It takes a lot to get it moving, but just like the little engine that could… as you continue to brainstorm blog content, you will soon have enough steam to keep your blog moving forward. Once you’ve started to get good traffic, it will be hard to shut the train down, and that’s what you want.
The thing is… even though you may be passionate about your topic, there will come times where you get exhausted and find yourself stuck.
So, here are some methods you can use to brainstorm blog content.
1. One of the best ways to brainstorm blog content is to visit other blogs within your niche and see what’s happening on their blogs. What are they talking about. What questions are their readers asking? What seems to be missing from their blog?
If you’re not sure how to find related blogs, visit http://blogsearch.google.com or http://www.technorati.com.
Oh, and while you’re there… leave a comment on a post that you find of interest.
2) One thing I did was ‘bookmark’ those blogs that inspired me. Whenever I got stuck and needed to brainstorm blog content, I would visit one of my favorite blogs for inspiration. Not to copy… that’s important. Don’t copy. Just get inspired with a new idea.
If for some reason you don’t get inspired from your favorite blog, another good way to brainstorm blog content is to search for articles in the news that are related to your niche. Try visiting http://news.google.com or http://news.yahoo.com for the most current ideas.
3. The last good tip to brainstorm blog content… join forums related to your niche. Now, don’t go crazy and join every one out there. Choose one or two large, really good forums. Be sure to participate in the one’s with the most members and most focused on your niche. This will also come in handy much later in gaining traffic and generating profits.
Just remember… as you continue to generate and brainstorm blog content, you’re letting the search engines know that your blog is relevant to your niche.
These tips are some of the best ways to brainstorm blog content, keep up your momentum and get a lot more traffic to your blog every day.
